The Charleston Comedy Festival - Open Call
The Charleston Comedy Festival’s stand up competition has been wicked popular the last few years, packing the Music Farm with fans of the funny as aspiring comedians try their best/worst material. Last year, comedians came from all over the region to compete.
To keep up with demand, the Charleston Comedy Festival is expanding its stand-up competition with a series of qualifying rounds.
Stand-up comedians can register now for showcases to take place Nov. 21 and Dec. 12 at 10 p.m. The top vote-getters from each show will move on to the finals, which will take place on the opening night (January 20) of the 2010 Charleston Comedy Festival.
The dates for the preliminary rounds are:
- Saturday, November 21 at 10:00 p.m.
- Saturday, December 12 at 10:00 p.m.
- Friday, January 15 at 10:00 p.m.
Venue: Theatre 99 (280 Meeting Street)
How the preliminary rounds will work:
- Comedians will be registered for each preliminary round date based on a first come, first serve basis.
- Each participant will have a strict 5-minute set to do whatever he or she wants to do. (We don’t censor).
- After all participants have performed, the audience will vote on paper ballots for their 3 favorite comics.
- The 5 comics with the most votes from each preliminary round will move on to the finals on Wednesday, January 20 at The Music Farm. The finalists will be announced at the end of each preliminary round.
We are now registering participants on a first come, first serve basis.
There is a $10 submission fee per participant.
