Mentors - Communities in Schools

Communities In Schools of Charleston, a 2009 WMD Grant applicant, is recruiting women to mentor female students at Clark Academy high school.

The program asks participants to email their mentees at least once per week and provides sample questions for mentors to ask their mentees. In addition, the program requests that mentor and mentee meet face-to-face once per month.

Clark Academy is a school located on James Island serving high school students from all over Charleston County. Clark provides smaller class sizes for students, along with credit recovery courses and extended day classes to help students who are overage for their grade level. The Clark Mentor Program is of vital importance to the school as it matches caring adult role models with students who want mentors and who often have little other support in their pursuit of a high school diploma.
