Part Time Education Specialist Job - The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry

The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry (Charleston) is seeking an Education Specialist (part-time,$10 per hour)

Job Description:
Responsible for teaching school field trip programs each week and aid in supervision of groups during visits. This includes collaboration with Field Trip Coordinator and Education Department to research, develop, implement, and evaluate all programs. Curriculum is sequential and designed to be developmentally appropriate for children in grades PreK-5. Must maintain written records of all programs
developed.

• Responsible for teaching early childhood programs for families both in the museum and off-site for collaborative partners. This includes collaboration with Program Coordinator to research, develop, implement, and evaluate all programs. Curriculum is sequential and designed to be developmentally
appropriate for children from 3 months to 5 years of age.
• Responsible for co-teaching after-school programs and other school initiatives. This includes collaboration with the Education Department to develop, implement and evaluate all programs. Theme-based curriculum is sequential and designed to be developmentally appropriate for children in grades K-5.

• Encourage family involvement in the museum and assist the Program Coordinator in developing and leading programs for youth and families that complement exhibition schedule or other institutional educational goals.

Qualifications Needed:
• BS/BA and 1-3 years experience in schools and/or museums. Degree in education or art preferred.

• Academic and/or professional background with early childhood and elementary school aged children.

• Ability to plan and deliver dynamic hands-on, inquiry based lessons.

• Experience researching and developing curriculum for an array of subject areas including, but not limited
to literacy, art and science.

• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and manage groups of children.

• Strong customer service skills with high energy level and ability to enthusiastically engage both large and
small audiences.

• Experience working collaboratively with schools, artists, and other cultural organizations.

• Pass SCLED background check
